El Pueblo Unido
Since I graduated from college, my focus has been in equity work but a few years ago life, as loudly as it could, decided that I needed a break. My mental health needed to be prioritized. So that's what I did. I have been taking the time and space needed to start healing and taking care of myself.
Fast forward to the present state of our country, I have felt strange not actively contributing to the cause in my day-to-day work like I have in years past. I felt so much anger, frustration, helplessness, and deep sadness. The question I kept reflecting on, was how can I help? I wanted to contribute in a way that felt authentic to me, but was more than just a moment - a lasting impression that would help continue the momentum of the movement.
That is how the collection “El Pueblo Unido” was born. El Pueblo Unido, which translates to “The People United” are pieces that were created by channeling my own feelings of frustration, anger and sadness into meaningful handmade pieces of jewelry. My wish is that they help serve as a reminder that we are all united as we strive to make the world a better place.
